Perry was born to actor Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mother in each of the two episodes she appeared on Roseanne. In fear of stress, her parents were not keen to let the actress pursue acting until she turned 18. Perry, who was too timid to perform in the school, began performing at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new friends. Perry started her acting career in New York after graduation, performing in minor role in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, the feeling of homelessness made Perry return to California to work as an actress in the theater. In 2013 she performed in The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother. Perry was in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was performed in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry played a lead role in nine episodes of ABC's show The Family. In 2017, she had a minor role on ABC's thriller about politics Scandal that starred her father. The same year she was cast as a younger version of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen version of her mother's role. The role was selected via auditions having a strong association with it.
